A Family Home Rooted in the Heart of Rangitahi
Sam and Sophie have completed their second home on the Rangitahi Peninsula, a project that reflects their growing connection to this unique community and their vision for modern coastal living. Their first home was one of the earliest built on the Peninsula, and the positive experience of creating it left a lasting impression. When the opportunity arose to build again, they didn’t hesitate! And were excited by the chance to refine their ideas and bring new inspiration to life.
Designed by Rubix Architecture, known for their innovative approach, and built by Baxter Build, this new home showcases quality craftsmanship and natural materials, with a modern style to complement its surroundings.
The home features three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open-plan living space that connects seamlessly to a covered outdoor entryway. A walk-in pantry, stainless steel benchtops, and the latest appliances make the kitchen functional and stylish. Forte oak flooring and birch ply walls create a warm, low-maintenance interior, while underfloor heating and a ducted heat pump ensure year-round comfort.
Designed with purpose, this home has been shaped by the family’s experience of living on the Peninsula and their understanding of what works in this environment. The house takes full advantage of its natural surroundings: An easy-care section with low-maintenance gardens, capturing views of Raglan Harbour and across to the golf course and Mount Karioi. This thoughtful approach extends beyond aesthetics; every aspect of the home was designed to support how the family lives, ensuring it’s a place where they feel comfortable and connected.
From the beginning, Sam and Sophie chose to work closely with local tradespeople and suppliers, a decision that felt both practical and meaningful. Raglan’s skilled professionals brought valuable insights, helping them to make decisions tailored to the area’s conditions. There are so many benefits to working with a close-knit community. Collaborating with local experts familiar with the environment not only ensured a smooth process but also reinforced the Peninsula’s commitment to sustainability and connection.
For this family, the process of building a second time was about more than creating a new space to live. It was about refining their vision, deepening their ties to the community and bringing their vision for a family home to life.
As Rangitahi grows, this family’s story highlights what is possible for others considering a move to the Peninsula. Whether building a home for the first time or embarking on another project, Rangitahi offers the opportunity to create a home that feels right, supported by a community of like-minded people.
