Local Architect Daniel Freidrich of DF Design wins Architectural Design award for sustainable home

Local Te Uku Architect Daniel Freidrich of DF Design recently won the ADNZ Design Award in the Residential New Home category for his Queenstown Twin Peak house, an energy efficient home inspired by the beautiful mountainous landscape.

Daniel is the architect behind DF Design, a sustainable architecture firm based in Te Uku. Having grown up in Germany, Daniel brings his previous experience in the New Zealand construction industry with his European design style and his deep appreciation for nature to produce sustainable and practical architecture that is economical to live in and stands the test of time.

The award for his Queenstown project shows professional recognition for his work in Sustainable Architecture. He imported triple glazed tilt and turn joinery made of larch from Germany to ensure thermal performance in this award winning home, which reduced the overall heating demand of the home by about 50%. His creative solutions to build an energy efficient home, including a fully insulated concrete floor that absorbs solar energy through the full height windows and doors, sets him a cut above the rest and proves his commitment to sustainable design.
